It is a city of immense historical, cultural and political significance, a bustling hub of business and entrepreneurship where people from all over Ghana, indeed West Africa, come to seek their fortune and prosper in peace. In decades past, a popular saying in nearby Francophone countries summarized the allure of Kumasi: “Qui n'a pas vu Kumasi, n'a pas vu le monde” (“He who has not seen Kumasi, has not seen the world”). That tradition of hospitality, encapsulated in the Akan word Akwaaba, is on full display at Okumah Hotel, which opens its doors to visitors from Ghana and all the world.
