The George Athens, Athens

Location: Aiolou, 26, Athens, GR

Our journey begins with the rich architectural legacy of Neoclassicism, a global movement spanning the 19th and 20th centuries. Influenced by this era, The George was erected in the early 1920s, shrouded in mystery due to the scarcity of surviving documents about its architect and original owner amidst the turbulence of the first half of the 20th century. Post-World War II, it transitioned into a textile shop and offices for Greece’s renowned Piraiki-Patraiki textile manufacturer until the 1980s. Subsequently, the building found new life under the ownership of George, a self-made entrepreneur from the textile industry. Today, The George Athens stands as a testament to the enduring connection between past and present lovingly preserved by its current owners, who envision it as a “living postcard” of cherished memories. Interestingly, during the renovation process, it was revealed that the building originally functioned as a in the early 1900s, completing a full circle of purpose. Named after their father, George, this property holds a special place in the hearts of its owners.
