Brighton, like a local
Don't miss
- Brighton Palace Pier: Arcades, doughnuts, seagulls stealing chips — quintessential Brighton
- The Lanes: Narrow alleys packed with independent shops, jewellers, cafes. Get lost.
- North Laine: Vintage shops, record stores, street art. The bohemian heart.
- Royal Pavilion: Absurdly ornate palace. Looks like it belongs in India, not Sussex.
Where to eat
- Fish & chips on the beach: The whole point of Brighton. Try Bankers or The Chippy.
- Terre a Terre: World-class vegetarian. Brighton takes veggie food seriously.
- Fatto a Mano: Neapolitan pizza. Consistently excellent.
Do this
- Walk from the Marina to the pier along the seafront: The full Brighton coastal experience in 30 minutes
- Brighton Pride (August): One of the UK's biggest. The whole city celebrates.
- A night out on the seafront: Pubs, clubs, live music — small city, big energy
Local tips
- Day trip from London: 1hr train from Victoria or St Pancras. Cheap advance tickets from £5-10.
- The beach is pebbles, not sand. Bring something to sit on.
- Parking is a nightmare. Train is the way.
- Sunday morning: head to the Open Market for brunch and coffee
