Brighton, like a local

Don't miss

  • Brighton Palace Pier: Arcades, doughnuts, seagulls stealing chips — quintessential Brighton
  • The Lanes: Narrow alleys packed with independent shops, jewellers, cafes. Get lost.
  • North Laine: Vintage shops, record stores, street art. The bohemian heart.
  • Royal Pavilion: Absurdly ornate palace. Looks like it belongs in India, not Sussex.

Where to eat

  • Fish & chips on the beach: The whole point of Brighton. Try Bankers or The Chippy.
  • Terre a Terre: World-class vegetarian. Brighton takes veggie food seriously.
  • Fatto a Mano: Neapolitan pizza. Consistently excellent.

Do this

  • Walk from the Marina to the pier along the seafront: The full Brighton coastal experience in 30 minutes
  • Brighton Pride (August): One of the UK's biggest. The whole city celebrates.
  • A night out on the seafront: Pubs, clubs, live music — small city, big energy

Local tips

  • Day trip from London: 1hr train from Victoria or St Pancras. Cheap advance tickets from £5-10.
  • The beach is pebbles, not sand. Bring something to sit on.
  • Parking is a nightmare. Train is the way.
  • Sunday morning: head to the Open Market for brunch and coffee
