New York, like a local
Don't miss
- Central Park: Walk it, bike it, get lost in it. Bethesda Fountain, Bow Bridge, the Ramble.
- Brooklyn Bridge: Walk from Brooklyn to Manhattan at sunset. Iconic.
- High Line: Elevated park on an old rail line. Architecture, art, city views.
- Statue of Liberty + Ellis Island: Book the pedestal or crown access months ahead. Ferry from Battery Park.
Where to eat
- Dollar slice pizza: Joe's Pizza, Prince Street Pizza, or any random corner spot. $1-3 for a proper NYC slice.
- Russ & Daughters: Bagels, lox, cream cheese. Been there since 1914. The definition of New York.
- Smorgasburg (weekends): Outdoor food market. Brooklyn and Manhattan locations. 100+ vendors.
Do this
- Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge at sunset: Free, iconic, unforgettable. Start from the Brooklyn side.
- A Broadway show: TKTS booth in Times Square for same-day discounted tickets.
- Late-night in the East Village or Williamsburg: Dive bars, live music, comedy — the real New York emerges after midnight
Local tips
- Tap your contactless card on the subway (OMNY): no need to buy a MetroCard
- Never stand in the middle of the sidewalk. Walk with purpose. Move to the side to check your phone.
- Museums: MoMA, Met, Guggenheim. The Met is 'pay what you wish' for NY residents but fixed for visitors: still worth every dollar.
- Chinatown and Flushing (Queens) for the best, cheapest food in the city.
