Cape Town, like a local
Don't miss
- Table Mountain: Cable car up, hike down (or both). Book on a clear day — it clouds over fast.
- Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden: World-class gardens on the mountain slopes. Sunday concerts in summer.
- Bo-Kaap: Colourful houses, Cape Malay heritage. Walk the cobbled streets.
- Cape Point / Cape of Good Hope: Where two oceans meet. Full day trip. Stop at Boulders Beach (penguins) on the way.
Where to eat
- Braai: South African BBQ. Find a local one or try Mzansi at the Waterfront.
- Neighbourgoods Market (Saturday): The Old Biscuit Mill, Woodstock. Breakfast/brunch scene is incredible.
- La Colombe: Fine dining with a view. One of Africa's best restaurants.
Do this
- Chapman's Peak Drive: One of the world's most scenic coastal roads. Do it at sunset.
- Wine tasting in Stellenbosch/Franschhoek: 45min drive. World-class wine for R50-100 per tasting.
- Robben Island: Book in advance. Powerful, essential South African history.
Local tips
- Load shedding (power cuts) is real: check the schedule on the EskomSePush app
- Rent a car if you're doing the peninsula or wine routes. Roads are good.
- Water is scarce: be mindful of usage. Short showers.
- The southeaster wind ('Cape Doctor') blows hard Dec-Mar. Camps Bay gets sheltered afternoons.
